FAQ

Shape Me Up is our healthy and realistic weight loss program developed by Dr. Sonia Talwar, MD. The program is also supported by our registered dietitian (RD) and health coach. This program emphasizes healthy weight loss with a focus on making permanent, healthy lifestyle changes. The program is offered as a group session or as individual coaching sessions.

During your first visit, you will meet with a registered dietician and your health coach. During this time, we will thoroughly assess your medical, physical and dietary history. Based on this initial assessment, you will work with us to create a weight loss plan that best meets your needs. This plan is never “final” and can be changed according to your needs.

It is helpful to bring a food diary with a list of meals, snacks and drinks you have consumed for two weekdays and one weekend day. If you are diabetic, it is also helpful to bring a log of your most recent blood sugar levels. If you are a current participant of our endocrinology metabolism practice of Dr. Talwar, then we will have access to your most recent labs, medical history and current list of medications.

Weight loss cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach, therefore, Shape me Up offers different approaches to weight loss. These include meal plans using real food, or use of meal replacement therapy, or a combination of the two. We will work privately with you to determine the best weight loss approach to meet your needs including daily work schedule, family life, physical activity level, medical conditions and medications.

Follow-up visits are an important part to weight loss. It is difficult to answer every nutrition and exercise question you will have in one initial visit. Group sessions are structured as a weekly sessions for first ten weeks. Further follow ups are determined based upon your availability, motivation level and how well you grasp the weight loss program concepts.

Weight loss will vary based on the weight loss plan you follow. Typically, a healthy weight loss program should yield a weight loss of 1-2 pounds per week. We will work with you to determine how much weight you need to lose while creating short-term goals to be met on a regular basis.

Besides your personal, one-on-one weight loss visits with us, there are weekly support group and nutrition education meetings. Each session will be on a different nutrition-related topic. Plus there will be an open discussion period for attendees to ask questions or share weight-loss tips.

You will have lots of questions after your visit with us. You will discover different foods in the grocery store, and encounter different weight loss struggles such as holidays, celebrations at your workplace, or just dining out in general. It is encouraged that you write down and keep track of your questions in-between visits. Bring them along at our group sessions or when you meet with your health care provider so that are addressed for as well..
